Senior Research Scientist
Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University

Dr. Vicki Ferrini is a Senior Research Scientist at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) and an Affiliate Associate Professor at the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping at the University of New Hampshire. Her research interests lie at the intersection of seabed mapping and geoinformatics and she has focused most of her career working to make marine geoscience data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR). She has acquired seabed mapping data with a variety of platforms in shallow-water and deep-sea environments around the world to answer a variety of questions through detailed seabed characterization. She leads the Marine Geoscience Data System, a trusted data repository that provides free public access to a curated collection of global marine geoscience data acquired by a diverse community of scientists, and co-leads the Global Multi-Resolution Topography Synthesis, which offers free public access to a multi-resolution global digital elevation model with a curatorial focus on bathymetry data from multibeam sonars. She is the Head of the Regional Center for the Atlantic and Indian Oceans as part of the Nippon Foundation – GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project, which aspires to completely map the world ocean by the year 2030.
