Since 2017, Dr. Fernando V. Paulovich is an associate professor and Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Data Visualization at the Faculty of Computer Science, Dalhousie University, and head of the Visualization and Visual Analytics lab. Before moving to Canada, he was an associate professor for almost a decade at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. His main research interest is visual analytics, focusing on integrating machine learning and visualization tools and techniques, taking advantage of the "intelligence" provided by machine learning approaches, and user knowledge through interactions with visual representations to help people understand and take full advantage of complex and massive data collections. In the past years, his primary focus has been on designing and developing visual analytics techniques for the general public to advance the concept of data democratization, promoting unconstrained access to data analysis widening the analytic capability of lay users in transforming data into insights.
